Blackberry Fizz

Just three ingredients and a mint garnish are all that’s needed for a beautiful, delightfully refreshing nonalcoholic summer drink. Blackberries are muddled with turbinado sugar, then topped off with seltzer. For a sugar-free version, substitute a few fresh stevia leaves for the sugar and muddle them with the berries. Stevia plants are easy to grow in your garden or in a pot, with leaves that can be muddled, sliced or blended to sweeten up any sipper.

Ingredients

SERVINGS: 1 Drink
  • 3 large blackberries
  • 2 teaspoons turbinado sugar (or substitute sliced and muddled stevia leaves)
  • ½ cup ice cubes
  • 1 cup seltzer water
  • Mint leaves, for garnish

Preparation

Place the berries and sugar in a drinking glass. Use a cocktail muddler or the stirring end of a wooden spoon to muddle the berries and sugar, mashing them until there are no large pieces of berries and the sugar is dissolved. (If using stevia leaves to sweeten, thinly slice leaves and muddle with berries.)

Add the ice cubes, then top off the drink with seltzer. Garnish with mint and serve right away.
