2018 Festival of Fruit in the Valley of Heart’s Delight
2018 Festival of Fruit in the Valley of Heart’s Delight

The 2018 Festival of Fruit in the Valley of Heart’s Delight, sponsored by the California Rare Fruit Growers, Santa Clara Valley Chapter is finally here!

Santa Clara Valley is known for being part of Silicon Valley today, but let's go back 60 years to when it was known as the Valley of Heart’s Delight and was the largest fruit production and packing region in the world.  This will be the site of our international Festival of Fruit being held July 26 to 30.  There will be four days to tour amazing gardens and nurseries, plus a day of lectures by prominent orchardists and expert growers of exotic fruit and vegetables.

On Saturday, July 28, at the Campbell Community Center, you can also peruse dozens of vendors, including specialty nurseries selling plants, seeds and garden supplies, and specialty artists and craftspeople.  The Saturday vendor day is open to the public without festival registration.

Founded in 1968, the California Rare Fruit Growers (CRFG) is the largest amateur fruit-growing organization in the world.  They specialize in fruit not native to nor grown commercially in California and other nearby states.  The knowledge and experience of their 3000+ members covers the environmentally sound culture of edible plants, including unusual fruits and vegetables, cereals and seasoning plants.

The two main events for the CRFG are the Scion Exchanges, in January and February when dormant fruit tree scions are exchanged for grafting and/ or cutting cultivation, and the annual Festival of Fruit.  Please join this year’s Festival as they celebrate 50 years of growing rare fruit!
