Regenerative ranching is getting another boost from local believers thanks to the efforts of Pescadero-based TomKat Ranch. Owners Tom Steyer and Kat Taylor, both successful Bay Area business leaders turned philanthropists, initially started their ranch as a land conservation effort. However, the cows soon became a part of the story. In addition to improving soil health, increasing biodiversity and generating solar energy, they wondered, “Can we create sustainable ranching practices that can be replicated beyond the Bay Area?”

The answer is yes. TomKat Ranch is now a teaching ranch that sponsors important research in support of regenerative ranching practices in its mission to raise healthy food on working lands, and inspire others to action to build and support regenerative agriculture.

In addition, the ranch is selling grass-fed beef under the label LeftCoast GrassFed, and is certified by the American Grassfed Association (AGA) and Animal Welfare Approved (AWA).  LeftCoast’s popular meat products can be ordered online and picked up at the ranch or at local distribution spots and farmers markets.  For more information go to Shop.LeftCoastGrassFed.com.
