The recent Butte County fire killed 85 people, scorched more than 1400 homes and structures, and destroyed more than 153,000 acres–an area larger than San Jose and San Francisco combined–and became the largest wildfire in California history.

The rebuild will take years. But we can all help now.

Chico’s Sierra Nevada brewery came up with an ingenious way to help the victims. They put their heads together and came up with a new beer–Resilience Butte County Proud IPA–and vowed to donate all the proceeds to the fire victims.

But then they came up with an even more ingenious idea. They put the word out to their brewing brethren across the country (and beyond) to join the cause. And the response was overwhelming. More than 1400 brewers signed on to make Resilience and donate the proceeds to Sierra Nevada’s Camp Fire Relief Fund.

“When the word went out, we were immediately on board,” says Brian Moore, GM at Santa Clara Valley Brewing in San Jose. “We all have connections to the area.” They are doing a release event and fundraiser on December 22, and have invited t-shirt vendors, cookie bakers, rib smokers and dog treat suppliers to join the cause.

For Mike Faul, owner of Rabbit’s Foot Meadery in Sunnyvale, it was also an easy decision. “We don’t typically brew IPAs, but were happy to do it for the cause,” adding they also had personal connections to the people up north. His Tap Room will begin pouring Resilience on December 15.

So if you want an easy way to support the cause, or better yet, if you want to sip on a cold one while you ponder how you will personally do something larger to help, visit one of these or Golden State Brewery, Taplands, Grillin’ and Chillin’, Blue Oak, Hermitage, Hop Dogma Brewing, Devil’s Canyon, Sacrilege and Clandestine in our patch. Cans of Resilience under the Sierra Nevada brand will be available at retailers in late December.
