Outstanding in the Field Dinner -Markegard Ranch in Half Moon Bay

Sometimes at a drop-dead gorgeous site, with a long table set just so to take in the spectacular scenery, everyone is deep in conversation and not paying much attention to what’s around them. Maybe Outstanding In The Field really didn’t need to schlep all those tables and chairs to the top of the hill to take advantage of a flawless day with a view of the Pacific that goes on forever. Then at some point, folks stop mid-conversation and say, “OMG, look at that view!" So maybe it is worth it. Another thing worth seeing are the Markegards’ banded Galloway cattle -- four-legged Oreo cookies chomping contentedly on lush green grass. This heritage breed hails from southern Scotland’s upland pastures and windswept moorlands -- something like the Pescadero pastures. Chef Jonnatan of Comedor has joined us a few times -- on the beach, in the mountains, and now on the ranch. Jonnatan tends to smile and laugh a lot. He has cooked in New York City and the Napa Valley, and is now back home in San Francisco, where he likes cooking outdoors.
