A selection of sweet and savory treats designed to showcase the rich and culinary heritage of the state of Tamil Nadu in South India.

Tapestry Suppers presents High Chai, a unique take on the British legacy of high tea featuring the vibrant flavors of Tamil Nadu in South India. The host, Vijitha Shyam, is a molecular biologist, pop-up chef and mother of two who is excited to present her take on high tea featuring the flavors and ingredients of her home city of Chennai (formerly Madras) in South India. As a child, she adored the food that her mother and grandmother cooked, serving as both avid consumer and food critic of each dish, despite never having participated in the cooking process. She fell into a love of cooking while studying at university in India and England, and started her blog, Spices & Aroma, in 2008 to document her grandmother's recipes. Taking one of the quintessential legacies of British rule - the practice of having tea - and making it her own as part of her "Madras-83 Pop-up" Series, Vijitha has developed a delectable high tea menu of seven sweet and savory items, all designed to be washed down with a cup of perfectly flavored ginger chai.

(A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit Undocufund, Tapestry Suppers' adopted charity for 2018. This is a disaster relief fund established last Fall to help undocumented immigrants in Sonoma County rebuild their lives after the wildfires.)
